Production Updates: More character info on ‘The Boat that Rocked’
October 26th, 2008

Hello again!

We haven’t had much information on Tom’s role in The Boat that Rocked but I spoke via YouTube to a UK resident who had the opportunity to go to an early screening of it.

He said that, Aside from having to put in some more special effects the movie is finished!! So we should be seeing some more from it soon. Hopefully a release or something.

Anyway, Heres the short description of Tom’s role that he gave me.

He plays one of the lead roles. In the film he goes to live with his godfather Quintin, played by Bill Nighy, on the boat (Radio Rock) because he got kicked out of school for smoking drugs. His mother thinks he’ll be able to learn some life lessons out at sea.

So the role of Carl is a LEAD! How exciting!! I thought it was a small supporting role, and I didn’t think Tom’s character would ever cross paths with Bill’s!

EDIT:

I’ve just come across an interview with Tom in Interview Magazine thats quite amusing and gives truth to whats written above:

To take a breather from films, British actor Tom Sturridge ran among the lions. He returned some 14 months later from Botswana’s Okavango Delta, where he had been studying the animals with his cousins. “I wasn’t very brave or very helpful,” admits Sturridge, 22. “You drive to the toilet there. You don’t walk or you’ll be killed.” What he gained was a crash course in survival. “Once, my 10-year-old cousin was driving the car, and we were charged by 10 elephants,” Sturridge recalls. Compared with that trip, the actor’s other experiences have been slightly less terrifying—particularly shooting The Boat That Rocked alongside Philip Seymour Hoffman earlier this year. The film concerns pirate-radio operators in the ’60s; Sturridge stars as a young Turk mentored by a legendary DJ played by Hoffman. “He’s astonishing,” Sturridge says of his co-star. “If you’re an actor, he’s one of the people you want to work with before you die.” It’s been a few years since Sturridge got his break playing the son of Annette Bening’s character in 2004’s Being Julia. But he didn’t mind the hiatus. “I want to do good stuff, which basically means waiting a bit,” he says. Of course it’s all timing: “If we did this interview next week, I’d say, ‘Listen, motherfucker, I’m playing Batman tomorrow!’” —Michael Martin

Two Pictures from the article will be up shortly, so keep a look out for them!

Production Updates: Waiting for Forever Character/Story Update
October 4th, 2008

Hey Guys!

Quick info: Obviously Tran has asked me to help out which is why I’m posting this and not her. Many Many Many thanks to her for trusting me! You’ll be seeing us both from now on!

Now onto the exciting news!

Waiting for Forever producer Trevor Albert was interviewed about the movie and had quite a few elaborations on plot and characters.

Soure: standard.net

The film stars Tom Sturridge as Will, a free-spirited street performer who wants to reconnect with Emma, a girl who was his best friend and first love when both were 7. Will was orphaned shortly after, and raised elsewhere. Adult Emma, now a television actress, is played by Rachel Bilson.

“Will learns that Emma’s father is sick and she is going back to her hometown to see him,” Albert said. “Will decides to go back to the town where he lost his girlfriend and find her again.”

Shots filmed in Ogden include Will being dropped off by a couple who picked him up when he was hitchhiking; Will whooping and hollering as he races into a bank to greet his conservative businessman brother; and Will “accidentally” running into Emma as she walks down the street.

“She’s amazed at the coincidence of running into him after so many years,” Albert said. “She’s trying to figure out just how crazy this guy is and what he is up to. He is reluctant to tell her he is a street performer and was waiting for her.”

The body of the story is about how Will, described as a Buster Keaton/Charlie Chaplin type of character, uses his offbeat charms to pursue this woman. It’s an off-kilter romance, Albert said.

Lots of the remaining scenes are interiors, Albert said. Also appearing in the film are Richard Jenkins, playing Emma’s father; Blythe Danner, playing Emma’s mother; and Nikki Blonsky as Will’s childhood friend, now married to another childhood friend played by Scott Mechlowicz.

“Waiting for Forever” will be released in 2009.

I don’t know about you guys, but I’m rather excited to see this “Buster Keaton/Charlie Chaplin” character whooping and hollering into a bank.

enjoy~
